Appendix B: Error Messages
Common barcode-generation errors appear in the Code View and in issue lists or
dialogs. The messages below are patterns. Barcode Studio replaces
<character>, <position>, and <count> with actual values when available and
can add the ASCII code of a non-printable character. Composite errors identify
the affected component.
Wrong Character
Error: Wrong character '<character>' at position <position>
The character at the given position cannot be encoded with the selected code type. For a non-printable character, Barcode Studio can append its hexadecimal ASCII code.
What to do: Remove or replace the character, or select a code type that supports it.
Wrong Character in Format String
Error: Wrong character '<character>' at position <position> in the format string
The value in Format / Subset contains a character or command that is not valid for the selected code type.
What to do: Correct Format / Subset, or select a code type that supports the required format command.
Wrong Check Digit
Error: Wrong check digit '<character>' at position <position>
The manually entered check digit does not match the calculated value.
If no character position is available, the message is Error: Wrong check
digit.
What to do: Correct the check digit, or remove it and let Barcode Studio calculate it according to the selected Check Digit method.
Wrong Number of Input Characters
Error: Wrong number of input characters (<count> chars needed)
The data length is invalid for the selected code type. For Telepen, the detail
is (an even number of chars needed).
What to do: Adjust the data to the required length, or select a code type that accepts the current data length.
Input String Too Long
Error: Input string too long
The data exceeds the maximum capacity of the selected code type.
What to do: Shorten the data, or select a code type with a higher capacity.
Barcode Does Not Fit in Bounding Rectangle
Error: Barcode does not fit into bounding rectangle
The selected size, module width, and output resolution do not provide enough space to render the barcode.
What to do: Increase the symbol width or height, increase the module width, or use a higher output resolution.
No Barcode Data
Error: No barcode data
The Data field is empty.
What to do: Enter the content to be encoded in Data.
Invalid Code Page or Characters
Error: Invalid code page or invalid characters
The data contains characters that cannot be encoded in the selected code page.
What to do: Under Encoding, select a Code Page that supports all characters, or remove or replace unsupported characters.
Invalid Hexadecimal Digit
Error: Invalid hexadecimal digit
With Hex Input enabled, the data contains a character that is not a hexadecimal digit.
What to do: Enter the data as complete byte pairs using only 0 to 9 and
A to F.
Method or Barcode Type Not Implemented
Error: Method or barcode type not implemented
The selected method or code type is not available in this version of Barcode Studio.
What to do: Select an available method or code type, or contact TEC-IT.
Invalid Data Format
Error: Invalid data format. Please examine the specification
The data does not follow the format required by the selected code type or application.
What to do: Correct the data according to the applicable specification. For details, open Help > Online Resources > Barcode Reference.
Quiet Zone Too Small for Bearer Bars
Error: Quiet zone too small for vertical bearer bars
Rectangle bearer bars require a horizontal quiet zone of at least 12 modules on each side.
What to do: Increase the left and right quiet zones to at least 12 modules.
Error in Linear Component (Composite)
Error in linear component: <specific error>
The specific error following the colon applies to the linear (1D) component.
What to do: Follow the specific error text and correct the data or settings for the linear component.
Error in 2D Composite Component
Error in 2D Composite component: <specific error>
The specific error following the colon applies to the 2D component.
What to do: Follow the specific error text and correct the data or settings for the 2D component.
Unsupported Composite Component
Error in Composite symbology: Composite component not supported for the selected bar code type
The selected linear code type cannot be combined with the selected 2D Composite component.
What to do: Select a supported 2D Composite component or a different linear code type.
Invalid Character Count for GS1-128 Composite
Error in linear component: Invalid number of input characters in combination with Composite
The linear component of a GS1-128 Composite symbol requires at least nine encoded symbol characters. The encoded count can differ from the number of characters entered in Data.
What to do: Add sufficient data to the linear component.
