Appendix A: Barcodes

Supported Barcodes

The Barcode Reference contains the complete list of supported barcode types and detailed information about print ratios, check digit methods, format strings, and escape sequences. Open it via Help > Online Resources > Barcode Reference, or use the following link:

MaxiCode: Structured Carrier Message

Use Service Class, Country Code, and Postal Code under MaxiCode for the normal workflow. The Barcode Reference documents the advanced syntax for including complete Structured Carrier Message data in the barcode data field.

Check Digits

Available check digit methods depend on the selected code type. Default is normally the recommended setting. To select a method in Barcode Studio, see Check Digit. The Barcode Reference describes the calculation algorithms.

The print ratio defines the relative widths of bars and spaces for supported linear code types. The default ratio is generally recommended unless your application requires specific values. To adjust it in Barcode Studio, see Bar:Space Print Ratio.

Format

A format string can add fixed or control characters, select code subsets, and arrange the input data before encoding. To configure it in Barcode Studio, see Format / Subset. The Barcode Reference describes the complete placeholder syntax.

Escape Sequence Reference

Escape sequences start with a backslash and represent control characters, special characters, or byte values in the input data. Enable escape sequence translation as described under Escape Sequences. The Barcode Reference contains the complete list of supported sequences.
